Undoubtedly, you would’ve seen all kinds of vintage-inspired spaces as part of this year’s biggest interior design trends. However, a recent home makeover caught our eye and stood out as the perfect example of transforming a once drab space into a maximal, curated haven.
Of course, its designer is Drew Michael Scott (or Lone Fox). Known for his love of the past, Drew embraces all things old and creates cozy, contemporary spaces that feel on-trend yet ever-lasting.
Taking to Instagram to share the behind-the-scenes of his living room makeover, Drew shows us how he styled the space by bringing in vintage decor and furniture.
It’s fair to say that Drew entirely transforms the space. Embracing living room color trends, he selects a classic cream shade Dimity by Farrow & Ball to cover the walls.
Once the paint has been applied, Drew brings in the bigger furniture pieces. He considers the living room layout and builds the room in accordance with its function. Creating a central area, he opts for a pair of velvet yellow armchairs which he places right at the center of the room, and then brings in a large vintage wooden coffee table and a retro leather sofa, all placed on top of a neutral rug. Drew is careful not to overload the room with too many dark and heavy pieces, showing us how to mix wood tones and textures.
Once the general layout has been achieved, you’ll notice that Drew decorates with vintage by going in with smaller decor and trinkets. He creates the perfect bookshelf ideas with a selection of vintage books, ceramic candle holders, and a handmade vase. He also decorates with art by uplifting the empty mantel with vintage paintings, a rustic candlestick, and a plant pot.
If you’re feeling inspired by this beautiful makeover, we’ve rounded-up some of our favorite pieces from the space below, happy shopping!
Part of the recent Lone Fox and Joon Loloi collaboration, the Hollyhock printed rug is inspired by antique tapestries and wall hangings. Drew hangs it on an empty to wall to warm up the area and tie in with the vintage furniture.
Tresle Round End Table (26″)
Creating a cozy nook, Drew cleverly designs a separate area for chatting or game playing by the window. He opts for a wooden round table like this one and pairs it with a pair of vintage chairs.
Rose Accent Chair (Chartreuse)
Giving the room a hit of color, Drew opts for a pair of luxurious yellow velvet armchairs that instantly elevate the space. The Rose Accent Chair is a contemporary take on classic design with its wooden legs and curved armrests.
Tuscany Outdoor Planter (Medium)
Decorating with plants, Drew places a large rustic vase by the window, much like the Tuscany Outdoor Planter. It gives the room a pinch of earthy freshness that contrasts against the dark furniture.
Drew has mixed styles and it’s definitely paid off. He positions a light wood bench against a window in the corner of the room, creating a laid-back, inviting area that provides guests with ample seating.
Impressionist Landscape Oil Painting
It can be tricky to know how to choose art for your home but landscape paintings like this one are often a safe bet as they bring a vintage charm that never fails to elevate an empty space.
Drew has taught us a thing or two about current living room trends by entirely repurposing a once-dated space into a curated, one-of-a-kind lounge that harnesses his love for the past.
