Home on private lot has billiards room, pool, guest house: Cool Spaces

Built in 1968, this two-plus acre, estate-style home is hidden away in the suburbs of Dauphin County.

Hidden is the perfect description. A natural privacy fence of evergreens surrounds most of the property, along with a dense mass of forest near neighboring Paxton Creek, insuring privacy and solitude.

An imposing stone wall at the front of the property, with a wrought iron gate at each entrance to the circular driveway, adds to the estate feel of the home.

The home is only a mile from Linglestown Road, with its ever-expanding number of restaurants, grocery stores and other retail establishments.

Access to major highways is only a five mile drive from the property, making it easy to get to Harrisburg or beyond.

The home has a distinctive touch of style by design. A quasi-mansard-style roof hangs low. Steeply sloped, it acts as siding for the “hidden” second story elevation of the house. Large inset windows peek out with dormer-type cutouts in the roof, allowing in abundant natural light. The modernized mansard roof is flat on top with a sloped facade.

This type of roof effectively turns what would be unused attic space into an extra floor of living space.

The exposed exterior first floor elevation of the home is stone, around the entire — not just the front, extending to the piers supporting the large back and side yard covered patio.

Matching stone is used for the wall near the entrance at the front of the property. The same stone is used to create a 2/3 perimeter wall around the in-ground pool and even the steps leading to the guest house.

A large deck starts halfway across the back of the home and extends to the one side, allowing even more entertaining and relaxation possibilities.

The yard of this home is ready for fun times, entertaining and even having guests stay over with the pool, the pool house and the guest house.

Both the pool house and the guest house have kitchenettes, bedrooms and full baths, allowing for maximum comfort without have to trek across the yard to the walk-out lower level.

Speaking of the walk-out lower level, this area of the enormous 9,760-square foot home (including the lower level) is an entertaining powerhouse/man cave heaven.

It all starts with a billiards room, with the warmth of wood floors, warm yellow walls, a large light fixture over the billiards table, and doors and windows to see the outside.

Off to the side of the room is another room, this one containing a sauna room. Down the hall is a full bath, with stone walls that match the exterior of the home.

Leaving the billiards room, down a short flight of steps, is a stone archway entrance to the family room. This room includes a full kitchen and a fireplace, both surrounded once again by the same stone matching the home’s exterior. This room also conveniently offers two doors to the large covered back porch.

Leaving this room and going through a second stone archway, one enters a room with a distinct 1960s vibe thanks to the wood paneling covering all of the walls. This room includes wall-mounted large mirrors and could be an exercise/workout room. This room also offers a door to the covered back porch.

Heading to the main living area of the home, a surprisingly high 20-foot ceiling greets one upon entering the home’s generous foyer.

The foyer branches off in four directions. Go left and up a short flight of steps and one is thrust into a huge living room, with 20-foot ceilings, a sliding door to the large deck, a fireplace and a wet bar.

PennLive published a story on the home in 2016 when it was for sale by a previous owner.

A set of double doors at the front of the room opens dramatically to the sunroom, with tiled floors, walls of windows and a two-story ceiling.

Looking at the front of the home, that would be the left side wing of the home.

Heading to the middle portion of the foyer takes one through ornate double doors and into the dining room, with a fireplace at one end, skylights, sliding doors to the deck and a dramatic chandelier hanging over the table. Previous owners said the chandelier once belonged to a temple in downtown Harrisburg.

This room opens to the kitchen, with matching high ceilings, except these marked by exposed wood beams and trusses.

Heading back to the foyer and to the right side of the home, a short flight of steps leads to the bedroom wing of the home.

High ceilings continue in this part of the home. A hallway connects the bedrooms and the baths. Two of the bedrooms share a very impressive Jack and Jill bath.

Different hardly describes this bathroom. The tub is made entirely of tile and is sunk about three feet into the floor so that a bather would be at roughly eye level with the floor. The tub hot and cold water handles and water spout are ornate, matching the wrought iron fence that extends up and around the perimeter of the tub.

This room also has a matching tiled separate shower and a private toilet closet.

The primary suite is separated from the three bedrooms on this floor. It offers private balcony access and a large amount of closet space and a full bath.

The primary bath includes a soaking tube set against a mirrored wall and flanked by two vanities. Also part of the room is a toilet closet and a separate shower stall.

Leaving the bath and heading down the hall to complete the circle on this end of the home is an office room, located next to the steps, that could be used as a fifth bedroom.

All of the interior doors of the home are ornate. Some doors have 15 panels, others have 21 panels and some have as many as 32 panels. Even the door hardware including handles and hinges make a statement. Wall-mounted lighting sconces are used throughout the home along with chandelier lighting in multiple areas, all adding to the formal feel of the home.
