We often look for sculptural forms that introduce softness or contrast; something that feels intentional rather than purely ornamental.’

Louie Drehmer, Founder of Art & See in New York, suggests: ‘Choose one hero move and let everything else support it, focusing on silhouette and proportion rather than sheer size. I keep materials tight – two to three finishes repeated with intent – and use contrast thoughtfully.’
And, when it comes to size ‘pay attention to scale,’ warns Autumn Pochiro, Founder and Principal Designer at Autumn Dawn Design ‘match the size of your light fixture to both the table and the room. A good rule is to allow about 2 inches of fixture width for every foot of room width, so a 10ft room would suit a 20-inch chandelier.’

It’s also a good idea to keep your table decor low and minimal to let the statement lighting shine. Louie explains: ‘I keep negative space around the piece by editing the tabletop and avoiding tall centrepieces, and I align the fixture to the table’s form like a linear pendant for a long table, or a clustered pendant for a round one to distribute visual weight evenly.’
As for the rest of the lighting, Gwyneth Paltrow’s dining room features minimalist wall sconces, which lend a gentle glow to the room, and flank the arched doorway to create a sense of ‘making an entrance’.
