ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A male guest at a Red Roof Inn was injured Friday night following a shooting outside his room. According to police, the incident occurred at around 11:30 p.m. at 22 W. Algonquin Road. A guest services employee called 911 to report the victim had entered the motel lobby, bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound. Police believe four potential suspects were involved.
The victim is listed as in stable condition at a Level 1 trauma center. Police said Friday night the scene was secure with no known threat in the surrounding area.
A preliminary investigation indicates the group of four knocked on the door of a second-floor room and confronted two sleeping occupants. The victim reportedly exited the room and was shot. Police said the wounded male ran to the motel office and asked the clerk to call 911. The quartet fled the area in a white sedan. The other room occupant also fled and likewise sought refuge in the office.

First responders found the victim unresponsive and began lifesaving efforts. Police deployed an AED and started CPR. Once it was determined all suspects had fled and the scene was secure, paramedics from the Arlington Heights Fire Department moved up and took over patient treatment. Paramedics continued advanced life support during transport to the Level I trauma center.
Police said the shift commander activated an Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System mutual aid request that sent nine police officers from neighboring jurisdictions to assist with clearing and securing a large crime scene. Officers from the Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Inverness and Palatine police departments responded to a request for assistance.

Forensic technicians documented and collected items of evidentiary value to include multiple spent shell casings that were recovered adjacent to the victim’s motel room. Detectives assigned to the case are interviewing witnesses, according to police. Digital and physical evidence is also being reviewed and evaluated. Detectives will initiate filing of legal process to further their investigation.
