- New restaurant is taking over ‘It’s Greek to Me’ space in Ridgewood.
- Meltemi Greek Restaurant will also serve Greek food, with family friendly dishes on the menu.
- Early reviews are positive.
If you’ve been missing Mediterranean eats on E. Ridgewood Ave. since It’s Greek To Me shut its doors last November, prepare to indulge in moussaka and branzino once again — because a new Greek restaurant just moved into the downtown space.
The fledgling spot is called Meltemi Greek Restaurant, and its menu revolves around “traditional Greek dishes that capture the essence of the Aegean Sea.”
“We are open for business!,” the team wrote on Facebook. “We look forward to serving the Ridgewood community!”
Meltemi Greek Restaurant opens in Bergen County
The interior of Meltemi Restaurant is upscale-yet-casual, its meals refined-yet-approachable. Pink floral arrangements adorn the dining room, while dishes like herb-crusted lamb chops and stuffed calamari fill the plates. At the center of each table are white roses, and the walls boast imagery of sweeping seascapes.
Grab a seat in the heart of the spot, and savor saganaki, taramosalata (Greek caviar) and more under coastal European decor.
Comfort foods, like gyros, are also on the menu, as are kids options.
“We are open every day for lunch and dinner!,” the team said online, with official operating hours being listed as 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Takeout and delivery options are available through Toast.
A ‘must-try,’ authentic Greek restaurant
“This is a must-try restaurant for anyone considering their next night out,” Michele Paccagnini said in an early Google review of Meltemi.
Fellow community member Ekaterini DeProspo agreed, adding “Finally a restaurant that serves actual Greek food! Right down to the Greek music!”
For an authentic Mediterranean experience, then (from the feta-infused bites to the lively Aegean tunes), Meltemi appears to be the place to be for hungry Bergen eaters.
