Deaf Cat Claims Guest Bedroom As Hers, What Owner Does Next Warms Hearts

A video of a deaf cat being tucked into her own bed in the guest bedroom has gone viral with 2.6 million views.

The TikTok clip showcased the tender side of Madison Lane’s husband as he gently ensured their cat, Nala, was snug in bed. But what happened the next morning was noteworthy: Lane, 22, found Nala in the same position in bed after a full night’s sleep.

Lane spoke to Newsweek about Nala’s habits and how her husband’s connection to their cat warms her heart.

“My deaf cat thinks that our guest bedroom is her room,” Lane captioned the video. “She sleeps here every night. Last night, Nathan tucked her in. I found her still asleep in her bed this morning.”

According to Lane, Nala is a sassy and unique cat. She’s eight years old and was adopted by Lane’s family from a classmate who had a litter of solid white kittens.

“We had no idea she was deaf and assumed she was just really good at ignoring us until we took her to the vet,” Lane said. The veterinarian soon discovered that Nala was “a very vocal kitty” and confirmed her deafness.

A Sassy Queen with a Strict Routine

Lane said Nala is a “girly girl” with a very specific, human-like routine.

She gets up every morning with Nathan to watch him leave for work and knows exactly what time Lane is supposed to get up.

“If I am not, she screams at me—she doesn’t know her volume—until I get up,” Lane said, adding that she thinks it’s because Nala is tired of waiting for her morning treats. Nala loves to lay in the bathroom sink while Lane does her makeup and looks at herself in the mirror. She also loves football season, where she sits under the couple’s TV to feel the vibration from the speakers.

The guest bedroom is an especially significant space for Nala. The house is Lane’s childhood home, and the guest room was the one she shared with her sister. Nala used to sleep there every night, and when the room was recently put back in order, the deaf cat “hasn’t missed a beat claiming it again,” Lane said.

“It warms my heart she is so comfortable, because she has been my best friend for eight years now and provided me so much comfort,” she added.

An Outdoorsman With a Soft Side

Lane recorded the tender moment of Nathan tucking Nala in because she wanted proof that Nala would stay put—and sure enough, she found the cat sleeping soundly in the bed the next morning.

The clip is a testament to the special human-animal bond and the tender side of Nathan’s personality. According to Lane, Nathan is a “rough, tough outdoorsman” who loves hunting, fishing and football. But Nala brings out a softer side of him that is rare.

“Seeing him with Nala, tucking her in and occasionally giving her kisses and trying to play with her and being so gentle and loving is a glance into the side of Nathan that not everyone gets to see every day,” she shared, adding that it makes her “incredibly excited to see him be a dad.”

The video received an outpouring of support, which Lane said has been “absolutely shocking.” The couple is moving soon, but they have already made plans for Nala’s new space.

“We are moving soon and plan to put her bed up in the new house so that she and the baby can both have their own rooms,” Lane said, confirming that in their home, the guest bedroom has, and always will be, Nala’s room.
