This duo of lower-level rooms was specifically created with kids in mind and connected using complementary palettes and materials. In the sleeping quarters, Byron Risdon selected citrine floor-to-ceiling draperies that draw the eye upward. That same fabric is repeated behind the tall headboards of the high-backed Lee Industries twin beds to create a feeling of enclosure. The walls and ceiling are a tonal shade of chartreuse: “The color doesn’t feel overwhelming, but it is noticeable,” Risdon says.
In the second room, he designed a “no supervision required” den, where color and pattern are served up in the form of floor pillows, a vinyl faux bois Harlequin wallcovering (designed off of an original silk piece), and a mix of modern and urban artwork sourced from Minted. The cozy, sapphire blue bouclé-like daybed can host an overnight guest when the occasion arises. In the center of it all: an oversized wood coffee table. Let the games—by which we mean Monopoly, Jenga, or 1,000-piece puzzles—begin.
A framed print of a gondola rising over a city by Igor, from Minted, evokes the altitudinous mountains outside. “It really seems to fit the feeling of this view,” says Risdon. “You can imagine yourself floating in here and over the mountain outside.” Daybed and chair. Lee Industries. Floor pillow fabric: Harlequin. Sconces and floor lamp: Visual Comfort & Co. Rug: Fibreworks. Coffee table: Serena & Lily. Art: Lucia Coppola, Shawna Urban, and Sumak Studio, all from Minted.

While the paint choice might feel punchy, the undercurrents of aqua calm the color down. “The color doesn’t feel overwhelming, but it is noticeable,” Risdon says. Beds: Lee Industries.
