LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Resorts World Las Vegas has been conducting daily room inspections this week while a famous cybersecurity conference has been in town.
The resort confirmed in a statement that it notified guests of daily room inspections that began on Monday, Aug. 5, citing “recent events in Las Vegas” and ransomware threats to casinos and hotels.
“These inspections are a precautionary measure intended to enhance our on-site security presence (both physical security and cybersecurity), maintain the integrity of our property’s services, and safeguard our guests, business partners, and staff against potential cyberattack threats,” Resorts World said.
Staff members conducting the inspections would be following strict protocols to minimize any disruption and respect guests’ privacy, according to the property.
The inspections came as Mandalay Bay hosted Black Hat USA 2024, a four-day conference specializing in cybersecurity.
Casino-resorts have been victims of cyber-attacks in recent months. One such attack crippled MGM Resorts’ operationsfor several days last fall.
Caesars Entertainment also disclosedlast year that a data breach compromised loyalty program members’ social security and driver’s license numbers.

In light of recent events in Las Vegas, and the increasing ransomware threats to casinos and hotels on the Strip, all guests staying at our property were notified that starting on Monday, August 5, 2024 and continuing for the next week, we will conduct brief, scheduled, visual, and non-intrusive room inspections daily. These inspections are a standard practice in many of Las Vegas’ premiere hotels, particularly during periods of increased foreseeable risk, where vigilance is critical.
